A Playlist Prince Made for Fans of TV Dramas

Prince released his first album in 1978. Over the next 38 years, he put out 39 studio albums, not counting soundtracks, live albums, and more… It is hard to imagine someone as busy as him having time to watch TV shows—let alone being a fan of New Girl.

In the third season, Prince contacted the show’s star, Zooey Deschanel, himself and said he wanted to make a guest appearance. But he was so busy that it was not until the fourth season, in 2014, that he found the time. He played himself.

The two leads attend a party hosted by Prince, who also plays peacemaker between them. Watch his low-key entrance and the leads’ reaction:

To make the party in the show feel authentically Prince, he personally put together a playlist for the production team:

Steve Welch from the show tweeted this on the day Prince died.

The playlist has 24 songs (QQ Music carries only 22 of them).

The first 15 tracks are a hand-picked set of funk from the 1960s and ’70s, offering a glimpse of Prince’s musical roots.

After all that high-energy dancing, the last nine tracks are slow, romantic songs for close dancing. Notice that Prince included “Push Me Away,” a Michael Jackson song from his days with the Jacksons—a sign of the mutual admiration between them.

That is enough talk. Enjoy the playlist! There is a video bonus at the end.
