A truly “underworld” concert, for fear of waking the spirits from millions of years ago

Metronomy performed at the French National Museum of Natural History, playing tracks from its new album along with some classics.

We talked about the new album last time 👇

What’s Worth Listening To: Metronomy — Small World

Surrounded by fossilized remains of creatures from tens of thousands—or even millions—of years ago, the band was holding a truly “underworld” concert…

I need at least 300 characters to apply for an original-content tag, so let me ramble a little more…

Along with its recent product launches, Apple has released two pretty good TV shows.

One is WeCrashed, originally given the Chinese title The Rise and Fall of WeWork. Since WeWork is still alive, the platform probably thought that title was inappropriate, so it changed it to Startup Fever.

As the title suggests, the series tells the story of Adam Neumann, the big personality who founded WeWork, the shared-office giant.

In less than a decade, WeWork went from a shared workspace to a global brand valued at $47 billion. But just before its IPO, the board fired founder Neumann.

I have only watched the first four episodes, about halfway through. The first part shows how WeWork was founded, what kind of charismatic entrepreneur Neumann was and how investors’ money was spent. Next, the series is about to get into how he obtained and spent SoftBank money from Masayoshi Son. I am looking forward to it!

The leads playing the Neumanns are Jared Leto, who is 50 but looks 30, and Anne Hathaway, who is 40 but looks 20. They are both very easy on the eyes.

Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway

It turns out that Neumann’s wife, Rebekah, is Gwyneth Paltrow’s cousin. Gwyneth won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1998 for Shakespeare in Love.

In fact, Shakespeare’s wife was named Anne Hathaway. Yes, the actress Anne Hathaway got her name from her.

As everyone knows, even though Shakespeare in Love won that year’s Academy Award for Best Picture, it was a pretty lightweight movie.

Gwyneth’s other film that year, Sliding Doors, got better reviews. This gentle sci-fi movie about parallel universes even influenced a lot of young people in China—the Sun Yat-sen University film club named “Sliding Doors” takes its name from it.

The club’s alumni later started two popular accounts: “Film Portal” on Weibo and “Film Portal Home Girl” on Bilibili. For the past few years, they have been translating film video essays on their own, just to keep the work going, giving young movie lovers plenty of little snacks for the mind.

Gwyneth became better known to younger viewers later as Pepper Potts in Iron Man. For rock fans, she is the former wife of Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.

I have gone too far off topic. I will talk about the second series next time, haha! Please go back to the video at the beginning and enjoy the museum.

Have a lovely weekend!
