Happy New Year!

I have been meaning to start writing my blog or public account again, but I keep putting it off. Partly because I feel I have nothing to write about, and partly because so many trivial things get in the way.

I envy people who always have something to say, as if their minds are constantly thinking and constantly looking for a way to express themselves. I feel more like a walking corpse, drained every day by work and little chores.

I hardly post on Moments anymore either, because it has turned into a “networking circle,” or even an “advertising circle.” There is no way to say whatever I want without worrying about who might see it.

Maybe the only things I can still casually comment on are music and art. I cannot even brush against morality, society or politics.

For example, I thought about using that famous Iwo Jima flag-raising photo as a cover image, but the flag in it was American. I thought about it and decided to leave it alone…

When I have free time, I just want to watch TV shows and movies, but I cannot stand mindless ones. There have not been many good films in the past couple of years, so I keep rewatching old favorites.

My friend Shuiye rewatches The Lord of the Rings trilogy every year. I rewatch Band of Brothers. The later series The Pacific and Masters of the Air were both said to cost $250 million and were billed as the most expensive miniseries ever, but neither surpassed Band of Brothers artistically. Still, the 80th anniversary of D-Day was the year before last and the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II was last year, and I did not write a thing about either.

Anyway, starting is always hard. You just have to set a flag and commit. A while ago, I set a daily “reading” habit in the TickTick app. Its motivational line was “People who aren’t good-looking should read more,” so I have indeed been reading more lately.

I forced myself to write 500 words just to set a goal. Looks like I am still flagging a little…
